HO HO HO

Good Day all!  I made another Christmas card last night.  That was two in one day.  I haven't done that in so long.  It was a good day.  Lots to do today so I will get right to my card.

I used Card Patterns Sketch #143 from this week to inspire me.

Off to get this day started.  Hopefully I'll have time later for another card.

Snowflakes

I Finally made my first Christmas Card of the season!!!   It felt good and I'm ready to make many more.  I started off with a sketch challenge from The Sweet Stop SSS136 sketch this week.
Very simple but was perfect for what I wanted to do.  I had just got a new Fiskars Snowbubble Border and Corner punch and had to use it.  I punched a rectangle piece and then laid it over another piece.  I like how the under layer peaks through.  I also knew I wanted to use these felt snowflakes I had die cut last year and decided to layer them.  I added a glitter snowflake to give it a little punch and tied it all together with a snowflake brad.  Keeping with the theme I added a snowflake ribbon at the bottom.  Simon Says Stamp Challenge this week is TAG IT.  It was a perfect way to add my sentiment to the front of the card.  I don't think there is anything left in the snow flake category... ohhh wait, the snowflake paper I used on the inside.  hahah..

I decided to go with the colors that Color Throwdown Challenge had this week for #169.  I love bright and cherry colors and they sure did have them this week.  LOOK:
I also decided to complete the Dutch Dare Card Challenge recipe from this week.  They asked that we use at least  3 of the items in the list:
-ribbon
-images
-pattern papers
-layers
-rhinestones, brads, buttons, etc
I used all but one of their request.

So I hope you are still hanging in here to finally see my card.
More snowflakes on the inside.
Well on to the next.. I hope you all had a great Sunday.

Eat Beef!

Hey everyone.. just two more days and the big Turkey gets set in front of us and dig in!

I have to get these cards out tomorrow to make it in time so I thought I'd share the other Thanksgiving card I made with you all.

First I got the sketch from a new challenge blog I got turned on.  I wish I could give credit where credit is due but I swear for the life of me I can't remember who or how I found them.  Most important you have to stop buy say hello and check them out... WHO????

To go along with my card I hit up the Color Throwdown Blog - Challenge #168
Are these colors so cute together?

Here is what I came up with.  I love this stamp, I think it sums it all up quite well.

The Cuttlebug Spot has a turkey challenge going on, your card must show a turkey so i guess I;
I'm good to go there..  I love entering challenges.

It's a pretty simple card but I really love this stamp.. it's so cute.. I doubt you can see it but I cut out the "Eat Beef" part and glued it to a toothpick, slid it between his wing and popped it up with dimensionals.

Thanksgiving Blessings

Is everyone getting ready for the big Turkey Day coming up?  I love waking up to all the different smells in the house...

and then we start to cook...

Hahahaaaa... lol!!!!

I crack  my self up!

Ohhh ok back to business.  I wanted to make a few Thanksgiving cards for special people in my life.  To get in the mood I visited just a few of my favorite blogs.  I got a huge jump start with CardPatterns Sketch #142.  It was great inspiration so head over and check out what the girls did with it.

But what's a card with out the perfect colors so that brought me to the ColourQ Challenge #111.
If you haven't visited they always have the best color combos ever!

So here is what I came up with to play along with them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day no matter what you celebrate as long as you are with people that mean much to you.

Thrift store find and redesign.

About, maybe, a month ago my bestie and I were doing some errands and decided to do a quick run though our local thrift store.  Didn't see anything... didn't see anything... didn't see anyth... hold on~!!!!  What was that laying on top of a dresser?  It was a large oval wicker mirror!.  As I was looking it over, there are not any cracks in the wicker or mirror.  I pick it up, turned it over to see how bad it was.. nothing broken or cracked on the back side.  Now don't get me wrong it was not the prettiest thing.  It definitely was older and had been used.

(sorry but could not for the life of me get the pic to rotate)
The wicker use to be white but now a lot of that white was worn away.   When I turned it around I saw a sticker at the bottom.  Looking closer it was a Pier One price tag..
I could not make out how much it was originally but there was no mistake it was Pier One.  I am very aware of Pier One, their furniture and everything they sell.  In fact I bought a coffee table from them a long time ago and many many kitchen ware items.   So I knew this originally was a pricey item.
Guess what the thrift store price was...   $24.99!
You should have seen Bestie's face as I was lugging that thing under my arm on the way to the register.

As you can see from above the first thing I did was mask it off so my crazy spray painting didn't get all over the mirror.  In the end I did get a little spray on it but nail polish remover took care of it in seconds.  I decided that I was going to try out this VERY cheep spray paint we have at work.  (remember I wear an orange apron)  I always thought this spray paint, because it was so cheep, wasn't that good.  NOOOOO it worked perfect and turned out great.
So for .97 cents.. go for it!

I did a quick spray with primer that I already had from my last project.  Primer is very important to apply to projects first.  #1 it will give you a new palette to start painting with, #2 it allows any paint to adhere to the service you're trying to paint.  Oh it might stick without primer but depending on what you're spraying on it might peel off very easily.  An lastly, especially in this case it would not soak up cans and cans of spray paint and never give me a good finish without the primer base.

Once it was all painted and let dry 24 hours this mirror had nothing on the back in which to hang it with.  I knew I wanted to hang it over my bed so I had to find a way to allow me to do that.  I decided to glue a 3 x 2 piece of board on the back.  The very best thing to use is GORILLA GLUE!  There are quite a few different types of Gorilla Glue so get the one that best suites your project, but no matter which one you use it will never come apart.

Made sure it was straight and level.  See the bubble floating right in the middle.
I put a good amount of glue on the board and placed a large heavy brick on the top and let it set over night.

The last thing I needed to do was add the picture hanging clips to the board.  I found the perfect ones.  They are large to handle heavy items and very easy to use.  Just place and hammer in the nails that are attached to each end.  In my case I had to tap not hammer.. I didn't want to break the mirror on the other side.   I attached two of them, one on each side of the board.

So ready for the finished project???

I am in love with my new mirror.  It turned out soooo great and it took no time at all.  The price for everything was:

Mirror = $24.99
2 spray cans @ .97 ea.. = $1.94
Picture Hangers = $2.97
Had the glue and the board

Total $  29.90
My beautiful mirror all done for under $30.00..  BAMMMMM!

Here it is on my wall over my bed.  What do you think?

Many Thanks

I wanted to share a card I just made.  This card is made for a very special person that our family owes a great deal to.  We both lost a very special person in our lives a few months ago .. her father.
He was like a father to me and the very first one I ever knew.

The background stamp is from Hero Arts, the felt flowers were cut with a PTI die and of course you see the Top Note die cut from my SU stash.  Added a little sticklers glitter for the berries and some baby blue pearls around the Nestabilities Scallop die cut.

I am using the color scheme from Color Throwdown challenge #167

and by chance Just Add Ink challenge #JAI93 has just about the same colors for their challenge.

Then I really like the sketch that Inspirational Card Sketches challenge #139 had.  It was very challenging to me and I like that.

I hope she likes it.. sending it off tomorrow.

PSsstttt.....  I have a huge surprise to show you tomorrow.  It will be somewhat long so don't have time tonight but I'm telling you come back to tomorrow to see my newest "REDO".  I am so giddy about it..  It turned out sooooo GREAT!!!!
Ok enough or I'll give the surprise away.
